I was in a restaurant at the week end and I was shocked at the level of disregard for employee and customer safety. 1. The amount of fume and airborne particulates from the cooking process was quite visible and it left a coating on my spectacles for the short time I was on the premises. The upstairs ventilation system was not working (this is not the first time it was not working). 2. The upstairs emergency exit stairwell was obstructed by storage of tables and chairs. At the very least the employer is in breach of fire safety and health and safety regulations. The current economic recession is no excuse for employers putting the lives of their most valuable asset (their employees) at serious risk, not to mention the paying customers. A malaysian chef in another local restaurant died of lung cancer recently. He was only 32. Inhalation of cooking fumes and micro particulates probably contributed to his untimely death. What say you all??

How many time do we see such things and never ask to see the manager? I often feel that I want to point out the danager that they are putting us in but bottle out due to upsetting the people I am with.
Do the HSA or HSE not inspect and deal with places that dont comply to the health and safety regs?
